About Us

Welcome to Ski Washington

YOU WILL FIND WORLD-RECORD SNOWFALLS AND A WELCOMING, DOWN-TO-EARTH MOUNTAIN CULTURE UNLIKE ANY OTHER.

WASHINGTON STATE is defined by mountains. From the Cascades, with the volcanic cones of Mt. Baker, St. Helens, and Rainier looming over the I-5 corridor, to the Olympic Range’s striking western façade to Seattle’s metropolis, and the Selkirks north of Spokane that rim the Columbia Basin along with the Blue Mountains of the southeast, our mountains provide an omnipresent backdrop for everyday life in Washington. And there is no better way to experience these mountains than on skis and snowboards.

Washington State offers a diverse array of skiing and riding experiences for all generations from the parks, pipes, and peaks out west, to the immaculate trails, sunshine, and wide-open glades of the east. You won’t find heated sidewalks, cookie-cutter condos, or hour-long lift lines. You will find world-record snowfalls and a welcoming, down-to-earth mountain culture unlike any other.

Since the first double chairlift in the world was installed on Mt. Spokane in 1946, skiing has been an integral part of the Northwest lifestyle. As economic recession slows development in many other states, the resorts of Washington continue to grow. This year, White Pass doubled their skiable acreage with the installation of two new quad chairs. Crystal Mountain added a new gondola, the first at a ski area in the state. The Summit at Snoqualmie is constructing two new chairlifts at Summit East, mostly from recycled parts. Stevens Pass continues to lead the way with environmentally friendly wind-power initiatives; all this while remaining affordable for the budget-conscious traveler.

With most of Washington’s ski areas less than 50 miles from the nearest city, it is no wonder that mountain culture resonates so strongly with those who live here. During the winter months, carpenters, computer programmers, and cooks alike run to the hills as soon as Mother Nature allows. They share chairlifts and bars, powder lines and lift lines, and a camaraderie that transcends traditional social boundaries. Brought together by Gore-Tex, P-tex and duct tape, the omnipresent mountains define the Washingtonian way of life.

Ski Washington and be part of true mountain culture.
